When is it art? This question may be debated endlessly.

In the world of music, we know that music can be art ? but are musicians artists?

It took a Beethoven to make classical composers into bona fide artists ? before then they were considered mere courtly entertainment. And it took the Beatles to make pop musicians into artists, primarily because they were songwriters. Musicologists tend to place the ?composer? element higher on the scale of musical value.

But most musicians languish with the label of ?craftsperson? or ?entertainer? ? they don?t really qualify as artists.

At the same time, works that are traditionally placed high on the scale of artistic status, such as operas, aspire to mass entertainment with little concern for their supposed artistic stature. Witness a recent marketing campaign for a San Francisco Opera production of Salome that featured an ad with the caption: ?Sex, adultery, betrayal, murder.?

What about the notion of applying the principles of art to virtually any endeavor? Can we separate art from fine art, works of art from being an artist? How about the notion of being ?artful?? Certainly a musical performance can be artful but can a plumber be artful? A lawyer? A teacher?

If we choose to define our endeavor as an ?art? are we overstating our case or are we indicating a particular approach?

My field ? audio production for music ? might be considered to be on the cusp between craft and art. There seems to be a divide between those who feel that it is overreaching to characterize this work as an art versus those (like myself) who feel that our work is in service to art. We, therefore, require an artful approach to be most successful.

?Art? and ?artificial? share the same root. ?Artful? is defined as ?slyly crafty or cunning; deceitful; tricky? as well as ?skillful? or ?characterized by art.?

Does it demean the word ?art? to characterize almost any activity as such? The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance and The Art of War remind us that we can infuse any activity with depth and insight.

As I began to tap on a more regular basis I started to see some very fundamental changes to some of the more profound behaviours that had been driving me all my life.

The more I tapped the more insights I developed about myself and my life, and the more I understood exactly what I needed to do to change for the better. The beauty of EFT for me is that it allows you to be completely and utterly honest with yourself about what you truly believe you are as a person.

Some of the more conventional schools of personal development thought advocate positive thinking at all times, so that good thoughts and consequent behaviours and habits become embedded in your psyche and body. This is absolutely fine. However, using positive thinking alone can be challenging if every fibre of your being is screaming ?I don?t believe a word of this!?

That scream represents a fundamental dilemma in your mind that can result from saying the affirmation (or positive phrase) out loud, but feeling in your body all the underlying negative emotions that conflict with that affirmation.

The underlying ?stuff? is said to represent your subconscious feelings and thoughts, which are said to be linked to your protection and survival mechanisms. They are therefore very strong, and often overpower any affirmation that comes from your conscious mind.

EFT allows you to start from where you are, and acknowledge your deepest thoughts, feelings and fears in a way that is safe and controlled. Whilst tapping and opening up to yourself you are revealing yourself to yourself. Although this can at times be traumatic (especially if it?s the first time you are really being honest with yourself), it is releasing you simultaneously from all the inhibitions that have kept you limited all your life.

The founder of EFT describes this process as cutting down trees in a forest. The tallest trees get chopped in half each time you perform EFT. This reveals other trees that, too, get chopped in half. Each tree represents an emotion, or issue that you are dealing with. Gradually, over time, all the trees get completely chopped down, and you are left feeling calm, centred, fearless and completely self-assured.

Like myself, EFT can be used to work on the trees in your own emotional ?forest? so that you may come to a place where you feel safe. This secure feeling can come from the knowledge that you have a tool designed to offer release from numerous emotional and physical issues. This can have a positive knock-on effect to your physical health and overall sense of wellbeing.

ATLANTA (AP) ? A young Georgia woman battling a flesh-eating disease could hardly believe it when she was able to speak Sunday for the first time since she was taken to an Augusta hospital more than three weeks ago, her father said Monday.

"Hello. Whoa. Wow, my mind is blown," were Aimee Copeland's first words Sunday morning to her sister and mother, her father said in a phone interview Monday with The Associated Press. Andy Copeland was in church at the time and had to wait until a later visitation time Sunday evening to hear his daughter's voice.

The 24-year-old developed necrotizing fasciitis after cutting her leg in a May 1 fall from a homemade zip line over a west Georgia river. Her left leg, other foot and both hands have been amputated.

When her father finally got into Copeland's room around 5 p.m. Sunday, he asked her how she felt. He said he was thrilled to hear her respond, "It feels weird being able to talk."

Copeland began breathing on her own early last week and the ventilator was wheeled out of her room on Thursday, the same day she was able to sit up in a chair on her own. She no longer has tubes in her nose and is down to three IVs from an initial 12, her father said.

She also is finally able to eat soft foods. A vegetarian, she had a tall breakfast order for her mother on Monday: veggie sausage, a biscuit, white gravy, a fried egg over easy and fresh fruit.

Google Analytics Opt-out Add-on for Chrome

Many websites and services make use of Google Analytics, a web statistics service that is tracking web users on websites where the script is installed. Besides the tracking, there is also the aspect of loading times that are affected by the script. Web users who do not want to be tracked, or want sites to load faster, may want to consider blocking the Google Analytics script from running on sites they visit.

Firefox users can use the excellent NoScript add-on for that, which takes care of both issues. Chrome users can install comparable solutions like NotScript or ScriptNo. Some may however feel that they interfere to much with day-to-day web browsing.

The Google Analytics Opt-out Add-on for the Chrome browser may not be the perfect solution, as it only tackles the tracking problem but not the loading of the script itself, but it does not interfere with other scripts running on the site. The Chrome extension has been created by Google, which may be the reason why the script is not blocked outright. According to information posted on the Chrome Web Store, the add-on ?communicates with the Google Analytics JavaScript (ga.js) to indicate that information about the website visit should not be sent to Google Analytics?.

It basically means that the script is loaded, and that the add-on notifies the script that the visit should not be tracked.

Another solution that is working universally on the system would be to block Google Analytics in the hosts file. Simply add the following two lines to your hosts file:

• 127.0.0.1 www.google-analytics.com
• 127.0.0.1 ssl.google-analytics.com

On Windows, the hosts file is located in the C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc directory. Just open it in a plain text editor like Notepad, and add the two rows to the end of it. This basically redirects requests that websites make to Google Analytics servers to the local system where the script can?t be found. Webmasters should keep in mind that this may prevent them from accessing the Google Analytics website.

A few weeks ago Gamestop announced a new business model in which they decided to start taking in trades of tablets and selling Macbooks. Looks like Gamefly took notice and decided to take it a step further and decided to develop their own games for iOS and Android platforms.

Video game rental service GameFly this week announced that it plans to begin publishing iOS and Android games in the upcoming months, and will launch its own Android app store.

In a?statement, GameFly said it plans to launch its App store for Android devices later this fall. It will be called the GameFly GameStore and should be ready for Android phones and tablets by this holiday season.

The company is also looking to partner with iOS and Android game developers. It has set aside a game development fund to work with independent mobile developers that are in the process of making a game, but need more money to publish and promote their titles.

?GameFly is dedicated to giving consumers the best user experience possible, and to be their single destination for console, PC and mobile gaming needs,? Sean Spector, GameFly cofounder and its senior vice president of business development and content, said in a statement. ?We plan to be a leading player in mobile games by launching our retail GameStore for Android and helping to fund mobile developers of all sizes to publish, promote and sell their smartphone and tablet games.?

GameFly is currently accepting proposals from mobile game developers, and expects to publish its first title this summer. The company instructed interested developers to email their submission to:?GameDev@GameFly.com.

The new Android store will complement GameFly?s existing free iOS and Android apps, which feature gaming news, reviews, and let users manage their accounts on the go.

But what does concern Harrison is this ? ?We remain in a dangerous period where those appealing to anti-immigration elements are fueling a divisiveness and hostility that might take decades to overcome,? Harrison said.

For several years now, Americans have been wrongly accused of being ?anti-immigration? just because they want their immigration and naturalization laws to be enforced. But calling someone anti-immigration because they oppose illegal immigration is akin to calling them anti-banking because they oppose bank robbery.

Like many sniveling liberals today, Harrison completely ignores the fact that we are talking about criminals here, people who have broken into our country illegally and make a career out of flouting our laws and undermining American sovereignty and security. Harrison is not at all concerned with these facts, he is instead worried about Americans ?hostility? towards illegal invaders, as if Americans oppose immigration altogether.

America is an immigrant nation. But we are also a civilized society of laws. Under the false claim that Americas immigration and naturalization laws are just too stringent and unfair, progressives like Harrison spread false notions to support their call for immigration reform, otherwise known as blanket amnesty for all illegals and the end to American sovereignty and security.

HANOI, Vietnam (AP) ? Do Quoc Tai is an unlikely pain in the side of Vietnam's ruling Communist Party. Although the construction foreman earns just $150 per month, he and his neighbors have strong-armed the government, blocking a major ring road that's a symbol of the country's push to modernize.

Nearly four decades after Vietnam emerged from war, it now faces a make-or-break choice: build roads and subways in its sprawling cities or remain stuck in the past, allowing fear of social unrest to hijack its development.

Building a nearby 1 kilometer (0.6 mile) stretch of the road took a decade, largely because residents resisted low payoffs until authorities relented. State media reported that $39 million of the $45 million cost was compensation and dubbed it "the most expensive road in the world."

Experts and officials say inadequate roading and public transport in Hanoi and other Vietnamese cities blocks the social and economic progress of a country where widespread poverty persists despite fast growth in recent years.

As construction of Hanoi's inner ring road remains stalled, its traffic will almost certainly worsen in the coming decade as a rising middle class begins to drive cars rather than motorbikes. The World Bank says motorbikes still account for as many as four in five trips in Vietnam's major cities.

Planners warn that if Hanoi doesn't build more roads and efficient public transport while limiting car ownership, its narrow streets will begin to look as gridlocked as those of Jakarta and other notoriously congested megacities. Two-wheeled commuters already honk their way down Hanoi sidewalks during rush-hour traffic jams.

The major sticking point is the price of land: The government wants to seize urban neighborhoods for infrastructure but offers compensation far below market values. It might have some justification since there are indications property prices have gotten far ahead of reality for a developing country. Many residents refuse to budge, and widespread corruption and bureaucratic infighting only exacerbate delays.

In Tai's run-down neighborhood, residents and commercial real estate agents estimate the price of the land at roughly 100 million dong ($4,800) per square meter.

Tai, who lives with 13 family members in a house the size of a small New York City apartment, says the 55 families he informally represents have been negotiating compensation with local officials since 2008. But many have yet to accept a deal.

If residents and officials can't agree, "it's likely the government will have to force an eviction," Tai said in his cramped living room as neighbors picked through garbage in an adjacent alley. "Some families have nothing to lose, and if they were cornered, who could predict what might happen?"

Vietnamese consider land a relatively secure investment in a country that's reeling from Asia's highest inflation rate and struggling to reform faltering state-owned corporations in the wake of a major 2010 scandal that damaged the country's credit rating.

Estimated property values near Hanoi's dilapidated old quarter are incongruously high considering Vietnam, where average per capita income is about $1,400 per year, has only just emerged as a "lower-middle-income" economy. That's a World Bank classification based on reaching an average yearly income of between roughly $1,000 and $4,000 a person.

The international real estate firm Cushman and Wakefield said in a report this year that downtown Hanoi office rentals ? at roughly $500 per square meter ($46 per square foot) per year ? rival those of Seoul and Munich.

Urban Vietnamese hold quasi-permanent land titles, many of which were issued after 1975, when U.S.-backed South Vietnam fell to northern communists and the country was reunified.

Experts say unlike people in the countryside who typically hold 20-year leases on farmland and can be evicted for golf courses and luxury villas, residents of Hanoi and the southern economic hub of Ho Chi Minh City are often less willing to cede turf for development or infrastructure projects ? particularly when the compensation price is well below market rate.

Site clearance for infrastructure projects is a "difficult problem" in Hanoi and other Vietnamese cities, said architect Tran Trong Hanh, a former member of the Hanoi people's legislature, a city council-like body that influences key infrastructure projects.

The government's "priority is compromise and guaranteeing the best benefit for the people, and eviction is the last resort," he said.

State media have reported that a majority of the 670,000 petitions the government has received since 2008 related to cases in which officials seized land for infrastructure and economic development projects but paid significantly less than the market rate for the plots. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung was quoted in early May as saying that if 528 such pending cases are not properly resolved, they could sow "seeds of political and social instability."

Organized resistance is rare in Vietnam, where a powerful government controls the media, squashes protests and imprisons political dissidents. Analysts say that unlike neighboring China, where the government razes urban neighborhoods for infrastructure projects over local opposition, Vietnam is very reluctant to seize land from city dwellers because it doesn't want to spark social unrest and risk threatening the status quo.

Officials in Vietnam's two major cities "can never finish a ring road," said Nguyen Xuan Thanh, director of public policy programs at the U.S.-funded Fulbright Economics Teaching Program in Ho Chi Minh City.

Unlike China, Vietnam "tolerates inefficiency in exchange for stability," he said. "Efforts to redevelop existing urban areas are very likely to fail."

Tai, the construction foreman, lives a few hundred meters from where the "most expensive road in the world" stops abruptly at a row of skinny houses. The success of other residents in blocking that road project has empowered landowners here and in other Hanoi neighborhoods to hold out for higher compensation rates ? further delaying major infrastructure development.

Since 2008 the official compensation offer has crept from 11.2 million dong ($538) to nearly $30 million dong ($1,440) per square meter for many of Tai's neighbors, but those who cannot produce official titles have been offered just 50,000 dong ($2.50) per square meter.

Local officials plan to raze the neighborhood and extend the inner ring road later this year, "but it's unlikely they'll meet that target," Tai, 48, said. The officials could not be reached for comment.

A nascent $5 billion metro system that's scheduled to begin opening in 2015 will ease the city's traffic burden to a degree, said Robert Valkovic, a transport specialist at the Asian Development Bank in Hanoi. But he added it will be difficult for city officials to discourage car ownership and develop a coordinated road network.

"If you start building roads," he said, "then you have to start knocking down neighborhoods."

Nicole Kidman Talks 'Raw And Dangerous' 'Paperboy' At Cannes

Lee Daniels-directed film, also starring Zac Efron and Matthew McConaughey, has met with decidedly mixed reception.

Much ado is made over the glitz and glamour that surrounds the exotic Cannes Film Festival each year. A lot of what brings so many celebrities and so much attention to the international film fest is its location. Who doesn't want to travel to the sandy shores of the French Riviera for "work"? The other big draw, of course, is the opportunity to see movies of all genres, budgets, origin, etc., many of which can get an early jump into awards-season consideration with positive reviews from the notoriously hard-to-please Cannes audiences.

From the outside looking in, "The Paperboy" is one of the films at the festival that has major awards-buzz potential because of its director, Oscar nominee Lee Daniels ("Precious"), and its cast: Nicole Kidman, Zac Efron, Matthew McConaughey and John Cusack. Judging from the initial reactions to the small-town, sexed-up murder mystery, however, the reception has been decidedly mixed.

"Daniels wants to show us realities that other movies don't, and I truly think that he's got the talent and drive to do it. But there's a major downside to that impulse," wrote . "If what happens on screen is in any way odd or exaggerated or, even worse, if it defies common sense, the clang of falseness is going to be deafening.

"The line on this movie in Cannes is the same one that a lot of critics, including me, took on Daniels' 'Shadowboxer': that it's so luridly overripe it's nuts — or, at the very least, high camp," Gleiberman continued. "Certainly, you're going to have that feeling during the scene when Kidman, at the beach, saves Efron from a jellyfish sting by urinating on him — which is an anti-jellyfish home remedy, but the way the scene is shot, I think Daniels had something else in mind. The wrong notes, the extremeness, just piles up from there."

Efron and Kidman spoke to the film's extremes during a press conference Thursday (May 24). "I don't think I was supposed to feel comfortable," Efron said. "It's like life. This character is supposed to be learning the ways of the world, and that can be very uncomfortable. But it's also exciting."

"I'd been looking as an actor for something raw and something dangerous," Kidman said. "I may be uncomfortable watching the movie. But that's my job — it's my job to give over to something, not to censor it, not to put my own judgments of how I feel as Nicole playing the character. I am there to portray a truth."

And no matter the discomfort surrounding the onscreen nudity, sex or the pee scene, Efron said he loved the experience of making the movie.

"I've been in love with her for a long time, since 'Moulin Rouge,' "the actor said of Kidman. "It was the loveliest time in the world for me."
