GOP trying to stamp out Postal Service

To the editor:

The Postal Service announced it was stopping Saturday mail delivery to save money. The USPS is in financial trouble not because of mismanagement but thanks to the GOP controlled government. In 2006 they passed a law requiring the USPS to fund its pension plan ahead up to 75 years and the money must be collected within a 10 year period. No business on earth can function under that requirement. Why did GOP pass such a law? Simple the GOP preaches government cannot do anything right. The USPS proves differently, it?s a function of the federal government which does not use taxpayer?s money to operate. USPS money is generated solely by services and sales of products which makes a profit. The GOP must get rid of the USPS because it proves them wrong. Second, GOP hates the postal union, they can?t stand employees having a say in any business. They feel working people are things to be used up and discarded at will. Three, they want to privatize the service by giving it to their fat cat donors, UPS and FedEx. This move will cause thousands of Americans to lose their jobs, thousand mind you, plus over 30% of the work force is veterans. Congress should revoke the pension law to save USPS but the GOP controlled house will not allow this to happen. The GOP is going to destroy a great American institution for a political agenda, lay off thousands of American citizens to satisfy their fat cat donor?s greed.
